Sharjah’s Executive Council has introduced a new decision outlining the rules for granting conditional release to prisoners.

Under the decision, announced on Tuesday, inmates may be eligible for parole after serving three-fourths of their sentence. The parole period, subject to restrictions, could extend for one month or longer.

For those serving life sentences, conditional release may be granted after completing at least 20 years in prison. In all cases, the final decision on conditional release will be made by the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, with subsequent notification to the emirate’s public prosecution.

The decision also specifies the conditions for conditional release, including potential obstacles, grounds for revocation, related executive procedures, and measures for enforcement and publication.
